Between the hours of 8:45 PM and 9:45 PM on April 3, 2014, the residence at 605 Wilkenson Street in Kannapolis was broken into and property was stolen. The suspect(s) made entry into the home by forcing open the back door of the residence. The only item missing from the home was a safe containing assorted coins, jewelry and cash. The estimated value of the safe and its contents was in excess of $35,000.00.

Home Burglary at 532 China Grove Road

Between the hours of 8:00 AM and 11:10 AM on March 25, 2014, the residence at 532 China Grove Road in Kannapolis was broken into and property was stolen. The suspect(s) made entry into the home by forcing open a door on the east side of the residence. The only item missing from the home was a large jewelry box containing numerous pieces of jewelry. The estimated value of the jewelry box and its contents was in excess of $15,000.00.

Fatal Vehicle Crash

The Kannapolis Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit is investigating a fatal vehicle crash involving a motorcycle that occurred on Saturday March 22, 2014 at approximately 10:30 PM. The crash occurred on Lane St at the intersection of Hazel Ave. Investigators have received information that the motorcycle was racing a large silver or white 4X4 pickup truck with a diesel engine and loud muffler just prior to the crash.

Video surveillance footage obtained by the Kannapolis Police Department show the motorcycle traveling east on Lane St beside a silver Dodge 4 door pickup truck just prior to the crash. Above is an image from one of the videos and a photo of what the suspect vehicle resembles.

Two Buses Damaged – Feb 24, 2014

About 3:30 Monday afternoon on Feb. 24th, a window was broken out of 2 different school buses as they traveled along Davidson Hwy between the 2 entrances of Cabarrus Crossing in the western part of the county. At this time it is believed the windows were shot out with a BB gun. Although the buses were occupied, no one was injured.

Missing Person – 15 year old Arissa Burris

arissa-burrisAt approximately 4:00 PM on December 11, 2013, a supervisor with the Cabarrus County Department of Social Services reported that an Arissa Burris, W/F, 15 years of age ran from the Department of Social Services building located at 1303 S. Cannon Boulevard. Ms. Burris was in the
care of the Department of Social Services when she ran away. Ms. Burris was last seen wearing a tan hoodie, blue jeans, black boots and a black leather jacket.

The investigation has revealed that Ms. Burris may have ties to individuals living in the cities of Charlotte and
Concord but all attempts to locate her have been unsuccessful a this point. Anyone having information regarding Arissa’s location is asked to contact Crime Stoppers.

Unsolved Murder – William Thomas Nelson July 22, 1999

The Kannapolis Police Department is seeking information regarding the unsolved murder of a local businessman. On July 22, 1999, William Thomas Nelson was shot to death while he cleaned his work van at Whitley’s Car Wash located at 91 0 North Ridge Avenue in Kannapolis.

The Governor of the State of North Carolina has approved an additional reward in the amount of $5000 to anyone that has information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the responsible party in this case.

Barn fire located at 1373 Winecoff School Road – Feb 18, 2014

The Fire Investigations Unit for the City of Concord is investigating a barn fire located at 1373 Winecoff School Road that occurred on February 18, 2014 at 6:20pm. The property is located between Havenbrook Way NW and Ray Suggs Place NW., which would be in the area between Davidson Highway (NC 73) and Interstate 1-85. Concord and Kannapolis Fire Department’s responded to the structure fire at approximately 6 p.m. and found a barn on fire. The fire has been determined to be intentional. Attempted Robbery at China Kitchen 2115 N. Cannon Blvd. at 9:50pm on February 10, 2014

At approximately 9:50 PM on February 10, 2014, a white male entered the front entrance of the China Kitchen located at 2115 N. Cannon Blvd and attempted to rob the business. Upon entering the restaurant the white male pulled a knife from his pocket and pointed it at the cashier standing behind the counter. The cashier screamed and the suspect ran from the business without taking anything. The suspect is described as being a white male, approximately 5’8″ inches in height and having a slender build. The suspect who wore a black hoodie that he pulled over his face during the attempted robbery was last seen running south on N. Cannon Blvd . Boost Mobile Store 1805 S. Cannon Blvd burglary – Jan 25, 2014

At approximately 6:45 AM on January 25, 2014, the Boost Mobile Store located at 1805 S. Cannon Blvd was burglarized by three individuals. Entry was gained by shattering the front glass door of the business. After entering the store the suspects stole multiple cell phones. All three suspects had their faces covered and were dressed in black hooded jackets with dark pants. The suspects were seen getting into a four door vehicle of an unknown make and color. The above photograph was obtained from surveillance footage of one of the suspects taken at the time of the burglary. McDonalds located at 350 S. Cannon Blvd. Robbery – Jan. 21 2014

At approximately 4:00 AM on January 21, 2014 two black males approached the rear service entrance of McDonald’s located at 350 S. Cannon Blvd. The suspects pointed hand guns at a delivery driver and several store employees that were unloading a delivery truck and forced them into a walk in freezer inside the business. One of the suspects help the employees and delivery driver at gun point while the other suspect went to the manager’s office where the manager was located and had her to empty the contents of the cash drawers. After taking an undetermined amount of US Currency from the manager’s office both suspects fled on foot. The photo above was obtained from surveillance footage taken at the time of the robbery.
