The Kannapolis Police Department is seeking to arrest a true “Dirty Santa”. Jesse Patrick Brackett “volunteered” at a local charitable organization posing as Jolly Old Saint Nick when in reality he was the Grinch looking to steal Christmas from those in need. But unlike the Christmas story this Grinch didn’t have a change of heart and he continued his wicked scheme stealing from and defrauding a family during troubling times. Jesse Bracket is wanted for Misdemeanor Larceny, Identity Theft, Financial Card Fraud, and Felony Larceny. He is also wanted in another State for similar charges. On December 23, 2015 there was a robbery at the Dragon Palace restaurant located at 76 Spring Street in Concord. The suspect is a black male, approximately 6 feet tall, slim build, and was wearing a clown mask. The suspect demanded money, then assaulted the clerk before leaving. The suspect was seen running on foot, and it did not appear he had a vehicle close by. Anyone with information is asked to call, text, or email the Cabarrus Area Crime Stoppers.
On December 30, 2015 at approximately 4:52 AM, an armed robbery occurred at the McDonalds located at 12051 Renaissance Drive (near the intersection of NC 73 and Shiloh Church Road). The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 6’2 in height and slim in build. He was wearing a black jacket and blue/gray jeans and possibly left in a Ford Expedition that is green and tan in color. The Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office is currently looking for two registered sex offenders who have moved and failed to notify of an address change.
Stephen Jeremia Penninger, a 28 year old white male is 5’10” and about 165 pounds. He last stayed at one of the motels on Cloverleaf Blvd. in Kannapolis, NC. Penninger is believed to be in the Kannapolis or Huntersville area.
Nyasia Mone Carr, a 19 year old black female, is 5’3” and about 120 pounds. She transferred from Mecklenburg County to Cabarrus County, but failed to contact the Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office about where she is supposed to be staying. She is believed to be either still in Charlotte or in the Logan Community in Concord.

I-85 REST AREA SHOOTING
The Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office developed a lead and has made an arrest in the recent I-85 Rest Area Shooting, where 43 year old victim Gregory McKee was shot in the back, leaving him paralyzed from the thighs down. After placing a video of a person of interest on the Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office Facebook and putting it out to local and national media outlets, the Sheriff’s Office gained valuable information that has led to the arrest of 26 year old, b/m, Darren Tyron Manuel of 15017 Willow Glen Road, Charlotte, N.C. Manuel is charged with Attempted Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon and Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury. Again, this arrest stems from the November 28, 2015 incident at the Interstate 85 Rest Area located at near mile marker 60 on Interstate 85 south in Cabarrus County, N.C.
The victim in this case, Gregory McKee, was traveling with his family from Virginia back to Gaston County when they stopped at the rest area. Mr. McKee was approached in the restroom by two black males who pointed a gun at him. As Mr. McKee attempted to run from the restroom, he was shot in the back. Both black male suspects fled from the scene. Mr. McKee is still hospitalized at this time.
Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office made the arrest of Mr. Manuel last night (Tuesday, 12/01/15) at his residence in Charlotte, with the assistance of Charlotte-Mecklenburg PD, Mecklenburg County Probation & Parole, and the FBI. Manuel is in the Cabarrus County Jail with a $2,000,000 secured bond. Manuel is also awaiting service of a Parole Violation. This is an ongoing investigation and we appreciate any help the public can offer in identifying and locating additional suspect(s).

On October 21, 2015 an unknown male broke into the Smoker’s Depot located at 1516 Pennsylvania Avenue, Kannapolis. The suspect is of a slender build and approximately 16-22 years of age. He entered the business wearing jeans, black shoes and a large hooded sweatshirt. Once inside the suspect stole several rolls of lottery tickets.
